Mail Order Herbs

This will be a sabbatical year on the herb front for our family. Travel plans, teaching elsewhere, and restoring our drying tunnel make this necessary. Please check back with us for Spring 2013.

Our herbs are organically grown and/or ethically wildcrafted on our northern New Hampshire farm or woodlands. We harvest in harmony with the seasons and the spirit of the Earth Mother. You will not find endangered or threatened plant species in any of our herbal offerings unless these have been sustainably grown from seed or root stock by us.

Nancy, Michael and Gracie Phillips: picking calendula, a healing herb -- photo: Geoff Forester
Picking those calendula blossoms every two days adds up to a heap of time over the course of a summer. But what glorious work! We're happy to celebrate being together as a family here on our own land harvesting the good herb.

We think you will be amazed at the energy of herbs harvested with love on a small family farm. Paying attention to optimal medicinal quality involves working with each plant individually. We harvest the correct parts of each herb at its most shining moment, and then preserve its unique goodness by drying it quickly and yet at a low enough temperature to hold fragile constituents in place. The greenness to be found in every bag of Heartsong Farm Healing Herbs speaks for itself.

Herbs Enough

We are cultivating the most-in-demand herbs here at Heartsong Farm - milky oats, nettles, and calendula - as well as wildcrafting other classic Northeastern plant medicines like hawthorn blossom.. The majority of our garden space is undergoing a multi-year cover cropping plan to renew soil fertility. Even though we are listing far fewer herbs than we have in the past, the best always awaits! We invite you to reserve your order requests sooner rather than later so that we don't disappoint long-time customers. This also means we will have time to travel a bit as a family (while Gracie still wants to be with Mom and Dad!) and catch up with projects on the homestead.

Using any medicinal herb begins with knowing the traditional uses of a particular plant. Yet Herbal Verve goes a step further. Spirit connection is where one's relationship with the healing herbs really begins. Check out this All Things Herbal article for intriguing information on the herbs we grow and wildcraft.

Reserve Now

Our crops are set-aside on a first come, first served basis for purchasers of our Healing Herb Reserve Notes. Each $50 Note purchased before May 1 receives a shipping discount (of $5) that we apply towards getting your order in the mail. This usually amounts to having to pay no shipping charges at all for customers on the East coast, and considerable savings for those living further to the West. We ship orders as herbs and garlic become available throughout the harvest season. Orders to non-prepaying customers will be filled only after reserve note orders have been filled.

Although we strive to meet every customer's needs, due to increasing popularity, we often sell out of herbs quickly. We suggest you contact us on herb availability (particularly in the fall and winter seasons) before making an order. Allow us to say again that Healing Herb Reserve Notes are the best way to ensure that the herbs you want are set aside for you. We recommend purchasing Reserve Notes even after the May 1 bonus deadline to insure this priority service.

Fresh Herbs

Freshly harvested leafy herbs and medicinal flowers are available but definitely require a phone or email consultation to determine shipping requirements and thus price. The fresh leaf of lemon balm, for instance, requires that we account for ice-packing and overnight shipping charges, which are going to vary based on quantity and where you are. So give us a call, name the herb you want harvested fresh, and we'll figure out an agreeable price.

Wholesale Pricing

We don't distinguish between retail and wholesale customers per se on this price list. The truth is anyone purchasing in pound quantities is already receiving our best price. Our emphasis at Heartsong Farm is on high quality, hand-crafted herbs that retain full medicinal virtue once dry and properly stored. The vibrancy of our herbs speaks volumes to that intent.
